I would like to contact Andrew Lee from Robins Farm if anyone could pass my email to him which is sandrakent46@hotmail.com.  Having seen his fathers sad details on the Daily Mail website apart from my condolences  I see a family likeness in his fathers face and we share the same surname.  I am investigating my family tree and would like to find if there is any link.  I would provide a photograph of my father if Andrew would like to see my reason for contact.

Well done to all the bad players those on the stage and those off the stage who worked so hard to produce what was a epic performance,  the audiences were a joy to perform to and made it all worthwhile.

To perform in a warm hall with new stage and curtains and new chairs for the audience to sit on  completed the enjoyment thank you everyone, see you again next year , ooh no you wont -- ooh yes you will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Burtle Townsfolk!!

My name is Carrie Burtle Wallace and I live in the state of Illinois USA. I was wondering if anyone in Burtle knows the history of how the village was named?

When my brother Ron Burtle was in the US AIr Force , stationed in Bentwaters England in early 1980's ., he had visited your lovely village. I recall as a child seeing pics of my brother taken in front of the Burtle Inn.  Upon his visit there , he met and managed to stay in touch with a few of the locals of Burtle  even after returning to the states. He has very fond memories from his visit there...Any info you could share would be appreciated!!

Hello..what a great village website! I came upon it by accident when trying to find a contact detail for The Polden Post if it is still running. Can anyone help with a name number or email?

I lived in Edington for many years until 2004 so it was a delight  to browse old haunts!

I now live in Street and have opened a new Beauty Salon (Beauty at the Manse see www.beautyinsomerset.co.uk) and really wanted to advertise our new venture but support an old favourite magazine at the same time! So if any one can help please email or call us on 01458 440242   or drop into The Manse, just 2 doors up from Living Homes!

Thanks, Deborah

To any friendly dog owners in Burtle

Hi there,

We are hoping to move to rural Somerset with our 3 lovely dogs and viewed a very nice property some while ago. We searched the area and our maps in vain for public footpaths where we could walk  the dogs but without success. When we enquired we were told that the locals walk their dogs along Catcott Drove so we returned but could only find one car park which led to a bird hide so not really suitable for dogs. We have travelled in all directions from the village and eventually decided it was not the area for us as our dogs are so important to us. However we have now viewed several other properties and none are as nice as the one in Burtle.  We also like your obvious community spirit. So our only thought is that you can tell us about a perfect spot where our dogs can have a free run in safety and we can get our excercise in pleasant surroundings. Hope someone can help

Thanks a lot

Miracles still happen .(if you live in burtle)

The miracle man Robin said i can replace the old cold ugly hall with anew sexy hall, it will be made from local sheep wool, straw , bottles and clay in three weeks Robin plus the odd collection of merry  followers had secured most of the finance and designed the building .

We are in a recession yet almost the entire project was built with unpaid labour but plenty of tea coffee and cakes consumed and stories told .Burtle be proud . Olympic stadium next???????????

We would just like to say a big Thank You, and well done to all involved in the village hall project. We had a lovely evening at the Grand Opening, and it was a real pleasure to meet so many of you, and to be so warmly welcomed to the village.

We have recently moved into Churches Farm, opposite the Burtle Inn, and are really enjoying life in Burtle!

Thanks again,

I'd just like to say how good your new hall is looking.  I am a member of the Camping and caravanning club folk song and dance group that camped in the field next to the hall.  good luck with the opening event and I hope to see the completed hall next year when we come to the village again.

P.S.  I work at the local senior school in Corsham and have told one of the Geography teachers about your 'recycled' build as he is really interested in things like this.

Good Evening Burtle

We are planning a fund-raising event to support our community-owned village shop here in Brompton Ralph, in the Brendon Hills. We are thinking of holding a mouse-racing evening and I see that you held one recently.  What we need is the name and contact details of the person who actually managed the racing, plus any hints and tips that you could pass on.

If you could e-mail me at nick.moore@acumenuk.co.uk, or ring me on 01984 623668, I would be very grateful.

We have just had a visit from Chris and Brenda Mockridge (Brenda is my sister) and caught up on the village news - there always seems to be plenty happening there!

Mum is Eileen Higgens who with her late husband Des helped at the Christmas parties at the village hall for several years.  If anyone remembers Mum, she would be happy to hear from you on this message board.

My name is Trish Olive, and I will start work as your parish priest on 13th January 2009.  My husband Mike and I will live in the vicarage in Shapwick.  We originally come from Kent and have lived and worshipped in many differnt places.  I trained for ministry in the Church of England at Ripon College Cuddesdon in Oxford: before that I was a primary school teacher.  Mike and I have three children, Sarah, Nicholas anbd Rebecca.  The eldest two are married and Sarah gave birth to our first grandhild, Daniel, just over a year ago,

We both enjoy walking and have a golden retriever called Ben, who is nearly 4 years old, and we are looking forwad to giving him long walks around all of the parishes; so please say hello if you see us.

We are excited about the move and being part of the communities of Ashcott, Shapwick, Burtle, Cilton Polden and Edington.

Wurzels Tribute Night! with The Mangledwurzels

Saturday 29th December at Tom Mogg Inn, Station Road, Burtle, Somerset TA7 8NU (01278 722399) Free entry

Saturday sees The Mangledwurzels making a return trip to the Somerset Levels. We played at the Harvest Home party in August 2008 (on keyboard player Jethro Tool's birthday!) - and a great night was had by all. This time they are at the Tom Mogg Inn, and looking forward to putting on a proper Somerset night's entertainment!

The Mangledwurzels are a three-piece Scrumpy & Western band based in Somerset celebrating the works of Adge Cutler and The Wurzels. More than just a Wurzels tribute band, The Mangledwurzels play Wurzels songs, old and new, blended with self-penned titles and pop standards 'Mangled' in true Wurzels tradition. Sharp-eyed viewers may have seen the band performing on ITV's prime time show Britain’s Best Dish, where they unsuccessfully tried to bribe the judges with gifts of scrumpy cider!

Fresh from a summer packed with high profile gigs across the West Country – including a slot on the main stage at the Bristol Harbour Festival, headlining the inaugural Bristol Cider Festival, and shows from Cornwall to West Sussex - the band are currently recording their second album "Wurz'Ee II" due for release in the New Year.

To all visitors to the Burtle Village web site.

We are being repeatedly attacked by a virus which corrupts the database on the web server and renders the site inaccessible.  I have now restored the database from backups on 6 separate occasions over the last few weeks and as yet have been unable to identify which visitor to the site is the carrier of the virus.

I urge you all to please check you have ant-virus software installed and that it is up to date.

After the last attack we unfortunately lost all our messages of goodwill from the Harvest Home which I was unable to recover.

Best regards

I'd just like to say a huge THANK-YOU on behalf of the village hall committee to all those who helped with the hall painting / providing refreshments, inspiration etc. on Saturday. Thanks also to the much
appreciated younger members of the team with a special mention for Elaine's son who even joined us on his birthday !

If anyone has an e-mail for Julian or his wife, please pass on our thanks to them.

After a very shakey start it was amazing to see the improvement that a fresh coat of paint (or 2 ??) made !

Following voting for the Burtle Garden Club Community project, the most popular idea  was to have flower tubs positoned at the signs as you leave & enter the village.

We hope to organise this for spring time, if there are any volunteers who would like to be involved please contact one of the garden club committee members.

Thank you to all those who voted !
