Hi Burtle, My gorgeous Mum was born in Burtle in 1927 Betty Margaret Cox, I believe her home was Railway Farm (long gone) her parents and younger brother passed away when she was a very young girl.  I do remember the station, looking back, very old fashioned and scary I also remember playing on the station platform and I think I remember a bell ringing to notify an oncoming train.  I am also remembering once going to a haverset home lovely supper real ham etc.  I do have some  very nice but vacant memories of her home in Burtle. I remember, I think her brothers Harry and Edward stayed in Burtle, and her parents (Fredrick and Clara) and brother Ronald are buried in the church yard.  I should love to hear from anyone that remembers the family.  with love and some memories.  Gail

Hi Burtle

Can't tell you how excited we are to have finally moved in to Bramble Cottage, Station Rd....yep, that little cottage, down by the bridge on the way through to Edington, past the Tom Mogg...........Part of our family moved to Burtle before us!........we have Chief and Chanel, our horses, who live at Hill Farm Equestrian and are really happy to be amongst their friends there...we used to live in Shapwick, but didn't want to be as far away from them both, so we put our house on the market in September 07 and now, here we are, together in the same village.  With us, we have the rest of the family, Meredith the deaf dalmation, Milo the manic cocker spaniel! also in the line up, the cats.......Giles, a spotted tabby!, Leonora, black and white, who started life as Lenny Kravitz, until she had kittens!....Padstow, another black and white who still looks like a kitten herself and finally, Digby, an enormous long haired ginger, who has taken up residence in the disused henhouse next door!!!!.........So if you bump into any of us, we don't bite and we're  all really friendly and hope to get to know a few more fellow Burtolians...........the ones we know already are all gorgeous

Take care, look forward to meeting you all at Cafe Burtle, Church, Hill Farm, or wandering the many lovely walks with the dogs on leads.....

Dear Web Master, Thank you most kindly for forwarding our mail regarding cottage rental to a lady by the name of  Anita Perry, who notified us saying she did have property which would be available should we still be interested.  We replied instantly saying yes we would be very interested in all the details and would love to hear from her as soon as possible,     having had no reply we emailed the lady again but still no responce, however on looking at her first contact with us here in Perth W.A. it was noticed that the email address was not an on line address directly from her, should this be the case perhaps it would be better if we had the ladies contact phone number, we would readily contact her this way as it would be no problem what so ever.      Should you have the ladies contact number we would be so greatful if you could provide us with the information so as we can make instant conversation with her.  Once again Web master a big thank you.  Yours John & Jun Coulson.

Hello Burtle,  Yes we are new to your village, My wife and i are an elderly couple who have just logged on to your beautiful Village website from our present home here in Perth,Western Australia. We have lived here for a good number of years , Our home previosly being a village location between Bristol and Bath. We have enjoyed our years living Down Under?. but now in our later years we find our selves longing for the Green Green Grass of Home.  Our  quest is now  to find a little old country cottage, 2bedrooms and a big garden to rent Permanently in or around you beautiful village. Should there be person or persons looking for 2 honest and trustworthy tenants willing to upkeep of the property as part of any rental agreement we would love to hear from you. In the meantime we wish you all that is good for your Website and you Village in the near future, Yours, John & June Coulson.

My name is Colleen Jenson, nee Vale, and I am writing on behalf of my
parents, Reynolds & Inez Vale.  My father's ancestors come from the village
of Burtle, and are wondering if you could assist them with some information
and pictures of the village.  My mother is a painter, and would like to do a
painting of Burtle for Dad.  Dad is nearly 80 now and Mum 72 so this
painting will be past down to the future generations.

My Grandparents Reynolds & Emily Vale owned three cattle stations in central
Queensland (Australia) and all named after your area of England.  Mendip
Hills Station was were they lived until retirement, it is now owned and
still run by my 83 year old Uncle Cyril and his son.  Burtle Station was run
and partly owned by my father, Reyn (short for Reynolds). Dad took over
ownership after Granddad died.  The third property, Tullamore, was run in
conjunction with Burtle as it was only 8 miles away.  Burtle is 35 miles
north of the town of Alpha, and Mendip Hills is 19 miles south of Jericho.
This made the two stations 80 - 90 miles apart (as the crow flies).
My parents now live in Yeppoon, which is on the central coastal of
Queensland, not far from Rockhampton.  It would make my Dad a happy ole man
to receive some information from you about you township.  Mum's favourite
painting subject is old English cottages.

I'd just like to say a huge THANK-YOU on behalf of the village hall committee to all those who helped with the hall painting / providing refreshments, inspiration etc. on Saturday. Thanks also to the much
appreciated younger members of the team with a special mention for Elaine's son who even joined us on his birthday !

If anyone has an e-mail for Julian or his wife, please pass on our thanks to them.

After a very shakey start it was amazing to see the improvement that a fresh coat of paint (or 2 ??) made !

Regards
Yvonne

I would like to thank the organisers of the Burn's Night celebration last Saturday.  I think it was a great success with much fun and enjoyment had by all.  A very special thanks to Jane Allen for organising a spread of Faggots/Sausages, Mash and Peas to over 70 hungry guests and of course many many thanks to all those involved in the preparation and serving of the food, arranging and clearing up the hall, running the bar etc.

I hope this will be a regular event.
